The road for Danny Joyce in singing the national anthem for the Calgary Flames vs. Montreal Canadiens game this Saturday began with a prank phone call 23 years ago when Joyce says one of his friends told a local radio station that he was a singer.
“(They) called me and said, ‘This is the Harbour Station calling in and we’d like to get you to sing at a Flames game here in Saint John,” said Joyce.
The on-air conversation got interesting when the announcer asked Joyce to sing the English and French versions of the Canadian national anthem, and the US national anthem, before revealing the charade.
