Survey: Holmes County wages comparable to businesses around the state

MILLERSBURG  The workforce of Holmes County is paid comparably to other similar businesses throughout the state. And the good news is, those wages continue to trend upward. Those are two of the findings from a 43-page Wage and Benefit Survey completed for the Holmes County Economic Development Council (HCEDC), according to Executive Director Mark Leininger. Six job classifications were surveyed: production workers, transportation and material moving workers, business and financial operations personnel, office and administrative support staff, health care practitioners and food service/restaurant and lodging personnel. The majority of the businesses that responded to the survey have been in operation more than 20 years and employ fewer than 50 people.

New stains, finishes and unique storage ideas are hot this year The Daily Record MILLERSBURG  Reclaimed wood and smooth  furniture, new stains and paint colors and unique storage ideas were among the highlights of the Ohio Hardwood Furniture Market.  Buyers from furniture stores across the country descended upon Holmes County today and Wednesday for the 2021 event, which began 13 years ago at the old Amish Flea Market between Berlin and Walnut Creek. This year s furniture show was held in two locations Harvest Ridge Expo Center in Millersburg and the Mount Hope Event Center in Mount Hope. Shasta Mast is director of the Hardwood Furniture Guild, part of the Holmes County Chamber of Commerce. HFG raised and donated nearly $1 million to help fund construction of the Harvest Ridge Expo Center.

Centor Inc to expand in Berlin, bringing 17 news jobs

MILLERSBURG  Holmes County commissioners Monday approved an enterprise zone agreement with Centor Inc. (formerly Owens-Illinois) in Berlin for expansion and creation of 17 new full-time jobs. The company manufactures prescription containers for medication dispensing, and currently has 205 employees and is looking to expand to property across from its location at 5091 County Road 120. Plans are for 37,000 square feet to produce saline solution packaging. Centor, makes pharmaceutical packaging, pill bottles and so forth,  said Holmes County Economic Development Director Mark Leininger. They are looking at constructing a new property on vacant land they own. The purpose of the new facility would be to enable them to produce a type of packaging for saline solution they cannot currently produce.

2021 Classic in the Country at Hiland High School will be scaled down

BERLIN TOWNSHIP A premier high school basketball event in the country, Classic in the Country has taken a major hit this year. But Classic coordinators are pleased to be able to continue to play the games, even if it is a scaled down event. Classic in the Country is preparing for its 18th annual showcase Jan. 16-18, over the Martin Luther King Holiday weekend, featuring 20 games. Since the inaugural event in 2004, more than 1,000 college coaches and 300,000 fans have descended upon the Perry Reese Jr. Community Center at Hiland High School to see a collection of some of the best high school girls basketball players in the country go at it in an atmosphere that celebrates competition and diversity.
