Yet summer’s here and the time is right for skulking in the murderously foggy streets, thanks to a three-day festival of vintage ’40s and ’50s crime dramas being presented this weekend at the newly reopened Hollywood Legion Theater by the Film Noir Foundation.

Moonlight (2016), debuts on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, May 14. The 10-episode show, based on Colson Whitehead s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, follows Cora Randall as she tries to escape the antebellum South. She finds an actual railroad and not just a metaphorical one for her journey north. Cora is being hunted by Arnold Ridgeway, who is determined to bring her back to Georgia because her mother is the only escapee he has never caught. The series stars Thuso Mbedu, Chase W. Did you ever wonder about that old barn across the street from the Hollywood Bowl? Well, it’s one of the most historic buildings from Hollywood yesterday. More than a century old, the Lasky-DeMille Barn was a film stage during the Golden Years of Hollywood DeMille’s 1914 Western “The Squaw Man” was shot there. It’s now a fabulous museum filled with vintage photos, memorabilia, documents and props illustrating the early days of filmmaking in Hollywood. Events and screenings are also held there it’s gone digital during the pandemic. The organization also works to preserve the town’s rich heritage.
