The quick thinking of a detective for the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy saved a man’s life.
Detective Holly Pennoni was driving to work on May 18 along 33rd Road in Cadillac when she saw a car driving erratically.
Pennoni saw the car accelerating as it drove down into a ditch.
Using the emergency equipment she had on hand, she called 911 and rescued the man out of his car.
Come to find out, the man she saved was her neighbor that lives across the street from her.
Pennoni said her neighbors were grateful she was there to help.

rd Road in Cherry Grove Township on May 18, headed to the EGLE office in Cadillac.
She saw a Ford Flex swerving on the road. The driver veered and crashed into a swampy ditch.
Pennoni called 911 and jumped down into the ditch. She had to smash the car’s window in order to reach the driver.
The detective was covered in mud as she and another bystander helped pull the driver out of the car.
Pennoni performed rescue breathing until an ambulance arrived.
It turns out the driver was actually her neighbor. She says he is still in the hospital but doing okay.
CADILLAC â When Holly Pennoni was pulling out of her neighborhood on May 18, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy and Department of Natural Resources detective knew something wasnât right.
As she looked for oncoming traffic she noticed a Ford Flex and a truck stopped in the middle of the road. The Ford was motionless and it appeared as if the truck was contemplating going around it. She wasnât sure if it was a road rage incident, two friends chatting or something else.
The truck, however, eventually moved around the vehicle and went on its way. The Ford also eventually started moving again. It briefly moved into the other lane and then went back into its lane, off the road and into a ditch.
They re amazing human beings, they re inquisitive and they want to know everything, Becktel said.
Becktel is the recipient of a Believe wish granted by Cadillac Mortgage. Becktel s friend, Holly Pennoni, asked for a week of dinners for Becktel and her family. Since Believe wishes go in the newspaper, the Cadillac News asked Becktel how she d talk to her classroom about the gift. We ll talk about kindness. We talk a lot about noticing things that people are doing that other people might not notice, Becktel said. They all have their things, like Well, my mom wouldn t read me a bedtime story! and we talk about like, What did your mom do for you today?
