Valley Voices: Glee, a remembrance

If you want something done, ask the busiest person. In my life, that has always been Glee Heikes. Except it should read, “If you want something done right…”
I met Mrs. Heikes as a young girl beginning in the 1960s. I would see her at Church of the Valley and at Rena’s, a salon in Apple Valley. She was radiant, immaculately dressed with every hair in place.
As an adult, working at St. Mary’s, I became better acquainted with Glee. I admired how she always considered other opinions during decision-making, her ability to see the big picture, how she took decisive action and dedicated all her energy to every project. I also saw how she inspired others. We became personal friends, and she was a guest at my wedding.
