The No. 1 concern for many in the return to Plan A (full in-person learning) Tuesday in Cabarrus County Schools was the challenge of maintaining 6 feet of social distance
With the final meeting about rezoning for the new Roberta Road Middle School set for Thursday, neighborhood members flocked to the Education Center before Mondayâs Cabarrus County School Board meeting to express their displeasure with the current plan.
Several members of the Highland Creek and Christenbury neighborhoods spoke at a school board meeting in January and asked for adjustments to a plan that would force a number of families to commute across Interstate 85 to the new middle school.
Changes then were made to the proposed plan, but one neighborhood still was cut in half, which some in the neighborhoods donât see as the best plan. Many people said they moved to this location specifically for the school.
RALEIGH â Gov. Roy Cooper strongly urged school districts to provide in-person learning for students at a press conference Tuesday.

âStudents should still have the option of remote learning at school if that is best for them. And teachers who are at risk should be providing that remote instruction. But students who are ready to return to the classrooms should have that chance.â

CONCORD â A group of parents and educators held a press conference Monday asking Cabarrus County Schools to delay a move to Plan A for kindergarten through third grade starting Feb. 16.
The press conference was held at the Education Center on Old Airport Road before the Board of Educationâs work session at 6 p.m. It was followed with a Hear Our Voice rally. The release for the press conference asks the board for three things before reopening:
