Syracuse women advance to ACC tournament title game with wild 19-17 win over Boston College
Updated Apr 30, 2021;
The Syracuse women’s lacrosse team scored 19
goals en route to a wild semifinal victory over Boston College in the ACC tournament on Friday in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
“What a shootout. Just an amazing game, back and forth, up and down,” said coach Gary Gait. “It’s a story of two very good offenses. Both teams shot very well, played very well. We made the plays we needed to.”
The teams exchanged goals each and alternated key defensive stops early in the first half, and it looked like Friday’s game would go play-for-play on both ends of the field. But Syracuse took an 11-6 lead into halftime. Those goals came off six different Syracuse sticks, and both Emma Tyrrell and Emma Ward recorded hat tricks before the end of the first 30 minutes.

In a scoring fest against No. 3 seed Boston College on Friday, No. 2 seed Syracuse defeated the Eagles 19-17 to advance to the Atlantic Coast Conference title game for the first time since 2017.
Freshman Emma Ward led the Orange attack with a career-high five goals on seven shots. Defensively, the Orange were strong in the first half but collapsed for part of the second, watching a six-goal lead evaporate. SU collected itself in the final minutes to pull out the last-minute victory, but Syracuse’s defense conceded 17 goals after allowing seven to BC in the last game of the regular season.
