O Christmas Tree, How Lovely Are Thy Branches | The Heart of the Farm is the Family

According to the Maryland Christmas Tree Association, there are approximately 100 growers and retailers who sell Christmas trees across the state each year. The varieties grown in Maryland are mainly Scotch pine, white pine, blue spruce, Douglas fir and Fraser fir. Of course, this Christmas tree season is unlike any seen in the last 100 years, as farmers grapple with the complications of on-farm sales during the COVID-19 pandemic. Tree farms all across the state have been weighing concerns about the spread of infections, listening to the ever-growing list of safety precautions being put into place by the state and their respective counties, and deciding what is best for their tree operation this year. It has been a deeply personal decision for most of them. Although some farms decided to close for the season out of an abundance of caution, others are open, but with safety precautions in place.
