Most of us would agree that we can’t wait for disastrous 2020 to come to an end. The coronavirus reared its ugly head early in the year, and then came Hurricanes Laura and Delta. However, we can’t let Christmas come and go and forget the blessings we have also enjoyed. The state’s first COVID-19 case was reported on March 9, and the deadly coronavirus pandemic disease by Tuesday had claimed over 6,800 lives in Louisiana. And the nation is currently in one of its most deadly coronavirus surges. Hurricane Laura hit Southwest Louisiana on Aug. 27, and Hurricane Delta came six weeks later. Our homes and businesses have been devastated, and the return to normalcy could be years away.

The drive-through will be from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Age-appropriate toys will be distributed for children ages 0 - 14. Cars should enter on Bord du Lac Drive to get in line. Gates will open at 8:30 a.m. and children receiving toys must be in the vehicle at the time of distribution.

(KPLC) - The Disaster Resource Group has donated meal kits for 2,000 families for Lake Charles families that have been impacted by Hurricanes Laura and Delta. The meal kits will be given away on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020, at the Lake Charles Civic Center. The meals are portioned and packed to feed eight to ten people. There will also be a specially catered, traditional rotisserie turkey with all the trimmings provided free and via a no-contact vehicle distribution event called the “Holiday Helpings Family Meal Giveaway.”
