Officials say if this rate continues, hospitals could exceed capacity in three weeks. I just spoke with the nurse at Regional Medical center in East San Jose who says the unit are nearing capacity and she expects it could reach capacity in the coming days. She also says more than half the patients in the icu are covid19 patients. That nurse is concerned about the rise in hospitalizations, calling it troubling and unsure what caused the spike. The hospital is prepared if there is another surge, with enough personal protective equipment and if needed, the hospital will open up another unit.
