YOUNGSTOWN Mrs. Gloria Adams, 76, departed this life on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.
Mrs. Adams was born Feb. 10, 1944, in Midway, Alabama, the daughter of Elijah and Elnora Williams DuBois.
She graduated from Center Ridge High School in Alabama, after which, she relocated to Youngstown where she met her husband of 54 years, Norman Adams Sr. From this union, together they had four children, Norman Jr., Shawn, Shawna and Sonja.
She had been employed at North Side Hospital, after which she was employed at Delphi Packard for 30 years before retiring.
Gloria was a faithful servant and member of Triedstone Missionary Baptist Church. She was president of the Mission, a Sunday School Teacher, was also member of the Usher Board, Mass and Number 2 Choir. She assisted in the kitchen whenever needed and also assisted with Communion. She was a member of the Praise Team and was truly a servant of the Lord. Gloria displayed unwavering faith
YOUNGSTOWN Mr. Christopher Kent Strozier, 65, departed this life Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021, at his home.
Mr. Strozier was born Aug. 8, 1955, in Youngstown, a son of Robert and Odessa Robinson Strozier. He was a 1975 graduate of The Rayen School and worked for 30 years as a TPW and supervisor with Youngstown Developmental Center. He enjoyed music, especially rhythm and blues, being with family and friends, and was an avid Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Rams, Cavaliers and Lakers fan.
He leaves to forever cherish his beloved memory, his mother, Odessa Strozier; a daughter, Latasha S. Strozier of Brooklyn, N.Y.; his sister, Sharon Peake of Youngstown; his dear friend and mother of his daughter, Annetta Moyer of Youngstown; and a host of family and friends.
YOUNGSTOWN Ida Mae Helen Barron, 79, entered eternal rest Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021.
Ida Mae, lovingly known as “Ike,” was born Aug. 22, 1941, in Hubbard, to John and Gladys Lokey Taylor. Ike was a 1958 graduate of The Rayen School, where she played saxophone with the marching band.
For seven years, Ike worked for Hills Department Store, beginning in 1959. In 1966, she began her 35 years of dedicated service at Youngstown General Electric Lamp Plant, retiring in 2001.
Ike was a lifetime member of The Alpha and Omega First Baptist Church, where she served as an active member of the Mission Feeding Ministry, as well as the president of the Nurse’s Aid. She extended her services even further by being a member of the local Nurse’s Guild Association. Ike was an avid bowler, serving for many years as treasurer of the Southern Tavern Bowling League. YOUNGSTOWN Ms. Janis Lorraine Dodson, 70, transitioned from her earthly labor to her heavenly reward, Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Ms. Dodson was born Aug. 16, 1950, in Youngtown, a daughter of James Morgan and Ireatha Henderson. She was a 1968 graduate of East High School.
A devoted homemaker, Janis also worked as a cafeteria and teacher’s aide with the Youngstown City Schools. She was a member of Phillips Chapel CME Church, its stewardess board and treasurer.
Her passion was taking care of others, especially children.
She leaves to mourn her passing, three loving children, Orlanda Dodson, Quiana Dodson and JeLonn Dodson, all of Youngstown; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a sister, Puella Jordan of Columbus; and a host of family and friends.
