Whitehall: 5 top stories from 2020
ThisWeek group
The world changed in 2020, with the COVID-19 coronavirus, civil unrest in major U.S. cities and a polarized political climate as just a few examples.
Whitehall had its share of changes, too. Here’s a brief recap of five significant stories published in the
ThisWeek Whitehall News during the past 12 months.
Additional office and retail spaces will open in 2021.
Norton Crossing is built on the site of the former Commons at Royal Landing, a 42-building, 270-unit apartment complex the city purchased in 2016 for $5 million.
The Eisenhower-era apartment complex had been the subject of multiple property-code violations and generated its share of calls for police service, according to city officials.
A new Columbus ordinance designed to encourage children to drink healthier beverages appears largely symbolic.
The ordinance, approved Monday by City Council, requires restaurants to list drinks such as low-fat milk, water or 100% fruit juice as the default option for kids meals. Restaurants that violate the ordinance face the prospect of small fines.
It’s unclear how many, if any, restaurants are impacted by the ordinance. City officials say kids menus are in compliance as long as they don t exclusively list a soda or other sugary drink.
That would appear to exempt many popular Columbus restaurants. Kids menus at restaurants including the Rusty Bucket, 101 Beer Kitchen, Roosters, Cap City, TeeJaye s and The Old Bag of Nails, either don t mention the type of beverage included with meals or include options like milk.
