北海道・釧路湿原など道東の自然を描き続けた画家、佐々木栄松（1913～2012）は、戦時中の空襲で妻と幼い娘を同時に亡くした。その娘の絵と自画像を展示する「父娘展」が釧路市阿寒町の「佐々木栄松記念 釧路湿原美術館」で開かれている。
置戸町で生まれ、白糠町で幼少期を過ごした栄松にとって湿原が遊び場だった。独学で油絵を学び、石版印刷会社を経て、1939年に画家として独立。絵の題材としての数の多さから「湿原の画家」と呼ばれたが、栄松本人はあまり気に入っておらず、「道東の原野画家と呼んでくれた方がいい」と語っていた。2012年1月、98歳で生涯を閉じた。
終戦1カ月前の1945年7月、釧路市内に空襲があり、栄松の妻と生後10カ月の長女令子（のりこ）は自宅近くの防空壕（ごう）の中で死亡した。娘は母�
