Hodo Williams, captain of Nigeria Women’s Football League side, Pelican Stars, says the club has set a target of winning the championship next season, The PUNCH reports.
The former champions had a poor 2020/21 season where they finished 11th on the log and had to compete in the play-offs to survive the drop.
The Calabar-based club finished top of the NWFL play-offs, which involved Abia Angels, Ibom Angels and Dreamstar Ladies in Benin City on Tuesday.
Speaking with The PUNCH, a delighted Hodo said they had set a target of reclaiming the title next season.

Following a poor season, where they finished 11th, Hodo Williams, captain of Nigeria Women’s Football League side, Pelican Stars, says they hope to perform better in the play-offs to ensure they remain in the topflight league for next season.
The 2020/21 NWFL play-offs is scheduled for the University of Benin Sports Complex, Benin City from May 7 to 11.
Former champions Pelican Stars, Abia Angels, Ibom Angels and DreamStar Ladies are the last four teams in the league and will participate in the play-offs, which will determine the two teams to be relegated.

Players of Nigeria Women’s Football League side, Pelican Stars, have blamed the club’s financial crisis for their poor start to the league, which cost them a place in the Super 6, which began on Monday.
The Calabar-based club endured yet another poor season as they finished 10th on the league table, a position which saw them miss out of the slot for the Super 6, where the champions of the league would be decided.
The players had protested and barricaded the Government House in Calabar last year, over 14-month unpaid salaries.
Speaking with The PUNCH, captain of the team Hodo Williams blamed the financial crisis at the club for their poor start.
