Justice Mohamed Zaini Mazlan said the prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt while also dismissing Tengku Adnan s claims of political persecution, The Straits Times reported. The decision comes just a fortnight after Tengku Adnan was discharged from another corruption trial by the High Court over a separate charge involving the receipt of RM1 million from another businessman.

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 21): The High Court has granted a stay of execution on the 12-month jail sentence and RM2 million fine imposed on Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor after the Putrajaya lawmaker was found guilty of corruption. Tengku Adnan, popularly known as Ku Nan, was granted bail pending his appeal to the Court of Appeal against his conviction and sentence. The former federal territories minister was earlier today found guilty of receiving RM2 million in gratification. The punishment for the offence under Section 165 of the Penal Code is imprisonment of up to two years or a fine, or both.

High Court judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan, in handing down the punishment, said he had taken into consideration all of the mitigation arguments submitted by the defence and the prosecution, including public interest and that of the accused.
