were not intended to detonate. that s a point you would consider. my analysis would be they were intended to detonate. just from what i see. here s some of the reasons. you don t put shrapnel, hidden shrapnel, glass, inside a pipe, to scare anybody. it s not going to scare anybody. you re not going to see it. if you want to put shrapnel to intimidate or, like, in a hoax device, you tape a bunch of nails around the outside of the bomb so the visual attack of your hoax bomb you see. that s not here. this is hidden shrapnel in the bomb. that makes me think this bomber wanted it to detonate. look at it defusing in the firing system, i can see some flaws i won t talk about. we would never want to arm the bomber with good information. but they do progress. they change. the digital timer alarm clock is probably a safe arm switch. the bomber could carry all his
epicenter and the investigative waves are moving out from that point. let s talk about how you d be profiling. and i m curious the decision, this idea that he sent two. jim referenced this may 2 to 1 person. this would indicate more rage. any other things that could indicate? i think it could indicate more rage. but if it s a hoax device, is it a double hoax? is this someone that was irritated? and realize this guy or guys right now, they have had a bomb making factory. they have had an assembly line on their kitchen table or in their garage or basement where they built all these things. if they built them all and made this one mistaken flaw, i m afraid we re going to see more. but if what they intended to do was just put a shot across our
something that was a hoax or some people really be taking this seriously? this is something that should be taken seriously. the nypd and fbi are taking this seriously. we re treating them as live devices. the way our bomb squad detectives went into cnn yesterday, this has to be taken with the utmost seriousness. so as far as a hoax device, we re not treating it that way. dominik? do you definitely feel this is terrorism related, and what do you say to the people of new york? it s absolutely terrorism because it s an effort to use violence to make a political impact. that s the definition of terrorism. the people in new york city are as tough as it gets. this city has been through terror attacks before. the people of the city understand the whole game plan of terrorists is to intimidate us. new yorkers refuse to be intimidated. that s what we see time and time again. go back to 1993, the first
intentionality, that they just wanted to scare. right. but then who benefits from the hoax device? who benefits? i think it takes you back to the same place. i m with you. first of all, the person who sends it. but also, whatever kind of political agenda they re trying to motivate would still be the beneficiary. that doesn t change all that much. but and neither does your initial analysis. with all due respect to my brother, you know, everybody right now is saying that we have to take a step back and we have to be more civil and we only know what they show. and you guys have taught me that well in the intelligence field over the years, that, you know, you have something that s for information and something that s for action. and they re saying the right thing right now. we ll see what they do. the president has an opportunity tonight. and even though we re in a little bit of a mode of mildness right now, because we re dealing with a little bit of a trauma, nobody should be kiddin
yep. that they were concerned about. they ve rendered that now safe. i don t know, it is unclear whether or not that was an actual explosive device or hoax device. we see that sometimes in these situations. basically bomb squads have the ability to render the device safe. there s a way to they use a way to fire water at a high rate of speed off using a shotgun shell to be able to essentially slice up whatever they think may be dangerous. that s what they ve done in this circumstance to be able to make sure whatever they were looking at, whether it was a real device or not, they could destroy it without it going off. that s a good thing for the law enforcement that s there, make sure that nobody else gets hurt as they start to go into the detective and evidence recovery phase of this as they were just talking about. all right. jim cavanaugh, want to go back
