they re expensive, so we need people absolutely, mehdi, the big thing, do not go to a hospital to be tested. do not go to an emergency room. what we re seeing is hospitals really struggling with very sick patients, but also, emergency rooms being overrun by people who have determined that that s the only place they can get a test. i guess people need clearer guidance on what to do when they can t find a test. i went into a supermarket the other day, and the pharmacied a the back of the store had five different signs saying, we re you have tests. they get asked the question so often, they felt they need to put up five signs. but that s really terrifying, because doctors there cannot cope with it. so that s happening all over the country. and nothing could be more dangerous for truly sick patients than hoards of americans showing up, trying to get tested in an emergency department of a hospital. so, have a listen to what

cnn s erin burnett spent the day with some of them. she joins us now live from ukraine s border with hungary. erin, you began your journey to cross the border in lviv 20 hours ago. tell us what happened when you headed for poland? reporter: so the first thing we did, we got up this morning, we d been down for maybe an hour, awoken by air sirens down in the bomb shelter. that s how it is now. and then we began our journey to the polish border. and first we pass the train station, and it is just hoards of people. just hoards of people. it is indescribable, people rushish to get on buses. and as you said it is primarily women and children. the men, obviously they re not ukrainians trying to get out. and trying to rush on those buses to get over the border. when we went to the border we were stopped dead about 29 miles from the exact border.
like where you are right now, erin. reporter: so what happened was, pamela, to get here it took another 16, 17 hours, and we passed various border crossings. we also, you know, one checkpoint alone took us over 6 hours because there s military check points in the towns. men are building up concrete. they re putting big piles of tires presumably in case they need to burn them to stop a russian invasion. so you have that and just lines and lines of people all of them trying to head for the borders. and right now we went by polish border, slovakia border and now we re here at the hungary border right here behind me about a kilometer and we ll cross it after this. the polish border is in crisis right now. they ve opened it up and said you don t need papers or passports. it s that they cannot handle the volume of people, the sheer hoards coming for these borders. this border we re at is much
