During the ASUC’s general meeting Wednesday, Senator Will Liu was sworn into office and UC Berkeley Chancellor Carol Christ and Vice Chancellor for Administration Marc Fisher discussed campus updates.
Senator Liu was sworn in following the resignation of ASUC Senator Dhruv Krishnaswamy. As guest speakers of the meeting, Christ and Fisher provided information on People’s Park, the upcoming spring commencement, COVID-19 vaccinations and campus budget cuts.
“We’re, I think, approaching the end of the tunnel,” Christ said during the meeting. “But we’re still in the tunnel and I know it’s hard.”
ASUC Senator Rebecca Soo asked Christ and Fisher what information they could provide about the vaccine.
i believe that she should. because she s clearly not being truthful, not being transparent about what s happening in these facilities or about the policy. one day she said that there was no policy. on the next day she said, we have to pursue this policy. she is at odds with five other different people, including the president in this administration. none of them are working together. in that same press conference, she kept trying to push off responsibility only on to the health and human services department. it s somebody that just seems like she s not on top of it, she couldn t answer that basic question that you re asking about where the girls are. and that should concern everybody. and we should get an answer to that. former hud secretary, hjulia castro, thank you very much. thank you. next, is it as easy as the government says to reunite these families? when i found out i had age-related macular degeneration, amd, i wanted to fight back.
earlier today i spoke with the u.s. housing and urban development secretary julian castro about how often the city of new orleans has come. secretary castro joins us now. secretary, thank you so much for coming on the program. thanks for having me. now i understand the federal government has taken some real initiatives to try and get people the home and the housing they need all around the gulf, in louisiana, and mississippi over the last ten years. how has the government done so far? there s been a tremendous amount of progress that we ve made. tens of thousands of families have been helped to get back into their homes either by having them rehabilitated or getting direct assistance, to get rental housing or sometimes when they logs their home, of course, getting compensation for that. but as the president noted, for as much progress as we ve made, there is a lot of work that still needs to be done.
