One of the earliest references to a community Christmas tree lighting is found in a history of the Westminster Women’s Club. It was Dec. 20, 1928. In past years, the annual tree lighting was also the occasion of a parade.

On Friday, Nov. 11, the Molleville Farm Post 467 Veterans of Foreign Wars in Westminster will hold a Veterans Day ceremony and open house honoring the family of Pasquale Donofrio, who donated the land for the post in 1946.
Edward and Robert Hooper were brothers who lived on Main Street in Westminster. They enlisted a year apart and were assigned to different infantry units. They were killed within a week of each other in late 1944 in France.
Don West, chairman of the Carroll County Democratic Central Committee, said it’s “very frustrating” that few local Democrats are running for office in Carroll. He has no real answers as to why.
