A local nonprofit is forging ahead with plans to revitalize All-Star Bowling Lanes, the backdrop of the protests that culminated in the Orangeburg Massacre, thanks to a $750,000 grant.
Elizabeth City State University received three grants totaling $1.575 million dollars from the National Park Service’s Historic Preservation Fund (HPF) to restore two campus historical landmarks. The grants are from two HPF programs: the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and the African American Civil Rights (AACR) grant programs. The funding will support the university’s Rosenwald Practice School and Principal’s House.
Bridgeport’s Mary & Eliza Freeman Center for History and Community has been awarded a $750,000 grant from the National Park Service as part of the Historic Preservation Fund’s African American Civil Rights grant program.
The National Park Service awarded $21 million to 16 states Thursday as part of a civil rights preservation project, including six locations in Alabama.
