Cars are set to be banned from George Street in Edinburgh as part of transformation plans to open up the space for pedestrians, bikes, and outdoor seating areas.
The historic street will be given a European boulevard feel to better accentuate the surrounding A-listed buildings.
Bus stops will be located in side streets.
Car parking will remain for blue badge holders and for shop loading access.
The plans form part of City of Edinburgh Council s 10-year transformation project, which will see the city centre become largely car-free by 2030.
The online fashion retailer is buying Topshop, Topman, Miss Selfridge and HIIT. Administrators for Sir Philip Green s retail group said Asos has paid an additional £65 million for current and pre-ordered stock. Asos told investors on Monday morning that it will take on around 300 employees as part of the deal, which will not include any of the brands stores. Arcadia collapsed into insolvency at the start of December after pandemic closures further exacerbated the group s troubles. Last week, Boohoo said it was in exclusive talks to buy the Dorothy Perkins, Wallis and Burton brands in a move which will also not include any stores.
