Duke of Edinburgh s Funeral details announced - funeral will take place on Saturday 17 April - Gold FM News - Srilanka s Number One News Portal, Most visited website in Sri Lanka

Tuesday, 13 April 2021 - 7:53 The Duke of Edinburgh’s Funeral will take place on Saturday 17 April 2021 at 3pm in St George’s Chapel, Windsor. The Funeral Service will begin with a National Minute’s Silence at three o’clock. The service will be preceded by a ceremonial procession inside the grounds of Windsor Castle. The plans for the funeral are in line with The Duke of Edinburgh s own personal wishes, and the occasion will recognise and celebrate The Duke’s life and his more than 70 years of service to The Queen, the UK and the Commonwealth. It will be a Ceremonial Royal Funeral, the same as for Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, rather than a State Funeral – something which is generally reserved for Monarchs. The plans have been approved by The Queen and reflect appropriate Government advice.

Showers in several areas expected

Monday, 12 April 2021 - 6:03 Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places over most parts of the island in the evening or night. Heavy falls about 100 mm can be expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa, Central, Western and North-western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts. Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces during the morning. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. On the apparent northward relative motion of the sun, it is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka during 05th to 14th of April in this year.

Monday, 12 April 2021 - 19:17 The Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (Monetary Board) has decided to suspend business of Swarnamahal Financial Services PLC (SFSP), in terms of Section 31(1) of the Finance Business Act, No. 42 of 2011 (FBA) with effect from 5:00 p.m. on 12th April 2021. Having considered the continuously deteriorating financial condition and non-availability of a viable revival plan, the Monetary Board decided to suspend the business of SFSP and its parent Company ETI Finance Limited (ETIF) in terms of Section 31(1) of the FBA with effect from 13th July 2020 and the period of suspension of business activities was in effect until 12th January 2021.

Sri Lanka and New Zealand inaugurate Foreign Ministry Consultations - High Commission to open this year

Sunday, 11 April 2021 - 8:32 The First Round of Foreign Ministry Consultations between Sri Lanka and New Zealand was held virtually on 08 April 2021. The meeting was co-chaired by Actg. Director General of the East Asia Division of the Foreign Ministry Rohana Ambagolla and the Divisional Manager, South, and Southeast Asia Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand Andrew Needs. A wide range of matters of mutual interest were discussed. This included enhancing cooperation in multiple spheres ranging from trade, development cooperation, defence, people-to-people exchanges, and education to sports and tourism. The two countries agreed to finalize a bilateral arrangement for establishing a constructive mechanism for enhancing trade and economic cooperation and for increasing bilateral exchanges in all areas of engagement.
