there s more people that are still out there that don t have jobs and are looking for jobs. the adult participation rate and number of people either employed or looking is at the lowest level it s been in many years. so as we get more jobs, we re going to get more unemployment. my feeling is the present unemployment rate grossly understates where we really are and that we really aren t performing as we should. economies at this point in a recovery should grow at 5% to 7% a year. it s not that that s sustainable for five years. given all of the excess capacity in unemployment we have, we should be able to grow 5% to 7% a year to get unemployment down to 5%, which is historic levels. the markets are reacting positively so far here. does this show that businesses are back on a hiring binge or binge is too strong but they have begun to spend that trillion dollar bank account they ve got? well, we don t know whether
