The drummer, DJ and Oscar-winning director is a key custodian of Black culture, with 200,000 records to prove it. So why does he think he’s getting too old for rap music?
Questlove has announced a new book, Hip-Hop Is History, that will be released on June 11th. "I've been with hip-hop since the start, and it has been with me just as long," the DJ, producer, and Roots drummer said in a statement. "It has been my friend and my companion, my coach and my counselor, a source of information and inspiration." The book, written with his frequent collaborator Ben Greenman, explores "the cultural and creative origins of the genre" and its effect on Questlove's own life and his career in music. "Hip-Hop Is History is my tour through the first 50 years of the genre," the six-time Grammy winner says. "And I couldn't be more excited for all of you to read it."
