respects. how surprising is a statement like that coming from an american president? well, it s very surprising, especially since the first part of this three-part trip was in brussels where both the eu is based but also the nato alliance is based, where president trump met with our nato allies and 22 of our 28 nato allies are also member states in the eu. so it s quite surprising that you d come out of that first summit of these three with that sort of observation. you were a former permanent representative to nato. how concerned right now are members of nato about this trump meeting with putin? well, i think there s some concern because we have a president who prides himself on being unpredictable. i think we saw some of that unpredict abiliability last wee brussels and in the united kingdom, but before that at the g7 meeting, before that in the meeting with north korea and so forth.
pride s himself on being unpredictable, but there is a pattern emerging. the president giving israel what it wants with in embassy move, something that previous administrations would have withheld as the final carrot on to push the peace process along. mr. trump also prepared to give north korea what it wants, a meeting, a direct conversation with the u.s. president, president trump speaking on it before. let s take a listen. hopefully i mean for all of us, for the world, hopefully something very good is going to happen. they understand it is very important for them, it is important for everybody. so japan, south korea, china, everybody i think it s going to be a very big success. but my attitude is, and if it isn t, it isn t. okay? if it isn t, it isn t. but you have to have that. because you don t know. again the president there
