All educational institutions at Dharamshala located in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh will remain closed due to incessant rainfall and landslides.
Rains lashed parts of Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday and the meteorological office here issued a red alert predicting "heavy to very heavy" rainfall with isolated spells of "extremely heavy" rains in eight of its 12 districts during the night.
More than 110 landslides and floods occurred from 24 June to 14 July. The devastation is largely due to the unchecked building of cement and brick buildings in the area, carried out by migrant labourers who are unaware of local weather patterns and geology. In addition, there is often a lack of earthquake-resistant features, while a failure to enforce safety regulations has also been criticised.
