Rains in Himachal Pradesh: The death toll in the Summer Hill Shiv Bawdi temple landslide climbed to 14 on Thursday, with the recovery of one more body from the debris of the collapsed religious structure. The deceased has been identified as Professor P L Sharma, head of department of mathematics, Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Shimla. His wife’s body was found two days back. The search team, including NDRF and SDRF, resumed the operation at 7 am and after three hours, the body of Prof Sharma was found in a mutilated condition. Rain in Himachal Pradesh: As many as 71 people have died in Himachal Pradesh due to landslides and flash floods triggered by the torrential downpour since August 13.The road connectivity to Kullu-Manali, Lahaul-Spiti and Leh beyond Pandoh in Mandi district has been disrupted with the blocking of Kiratpur-Manali national highway at several places due to landslides. In Shimla, around half-a-dozen buildings are facing a threat due to landslides, while in Kangra district, 1,731 people have been rescued following inundation after release of water from Pong Dam.Several houses in different parts of the Shimla are also facing the threat of collapse due to landslides. In Shimla,rains have led to the uprooting of more than 500 trees. CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said during a review meeting in Shimla on Tuesday that a 157% surge in rainfall over the past four days has resulted in exten sive damage across the entire state. Himachal Pradesh Rains Today: The death count from landslides and flooding rose to 59 in Himachal Pradesh Tuesday with many still buried under mounds of earth as cloudbursts and heavy rain continued to pummel the state, with Mandi and Shimla districts reporting the most fatalities at 23 and 19. Search teams dug out three bodies Tuesday in the Summer Hill area of Shimla, where a major landslide the previous morning destroyed the Shiv Bawdi temple, burying over two dozen people.
