The heavy rain led to landslides and flash floods. Meanwhile, the government had to shut down as many as 530 roads in Himachal Pradesh due to the incessant rain.
The Indian state of Himachal Pradesh has declared that 21 out of 23 dams within its borders have violated safety standards. The state has blamed the violations on a lack of monitoring by government agencies. The officials said only the Kol Dam in Bilaspur and the Karcham Wangtoo project in Kinnaur adhered to the water release guidelines.
New Delhi, Aug 20 (PTI) The Centre on Sunday approved the release of Rs 200 crore from the National Disaster Response Fund as advance assistance to Himachal Pradesh to help the rain-battered state undertake relief measures for affected people.
