(AP) A student who was fatally shot in a parking lot outside the student center at the University of Alabama at Birmingham apparently was killed during a meeting about selling headphones, authorities said Friday. Police said Destiny Danielle Washington, 20, of Trussville was shot outside Hill Student Center on Thursday night and then driven in a private vehicle to Children’s of Alabama, the hospital where she was pronounced dead, news outlets reported. Police believe the woman, who was studying nursing, was shot during a meeting arranged to sell headphones, according to a statement by UAB.

From the Tribune staff reports CLAY Destiny Washington who was shot and killed outside the Hill Student Center on the UAB campus on Thursday night had “so much potential,” Clay-Chalkville High School principal Michael Lee said Friday morning. She was an outstanding student and athlete for the Cougars. “The news of Destiny’s passing breaks my heart,” Lee said. Destiny Washington was a 2018 graduate of Clay-Chalkville High School Washington was a 2018 graduate of the school. Lee said this type of news was his worst nightmare. “She was an outstanding student who excelled in AP classes while she attended CCHS,” Lee said. “She was also a member of our volleyball and basketball teams. As great of a student and athlete, as she was, she was an even better person who genuinely cared for others.”

Two female students, both aged 20, gunned down. Both young women, known for their smiles and their motivation to help others. Both young women with so much potential, taken from this world due to senseless violence. The mother of Kayla Fanaei, who was shot and killed while sitting in her car in 2007, will never completely heal from the loss of her child. Fanaei was much more than a shooting victim. She went to school, worked two jobs and volunteered for a crisis hotline. The loss has been immeasurable for her mother. But just like her daughter, Robin Groom is willing to help encourage and try to help others heal.

From the Tribune staff reports BIRMINGHAM Police in Birmingham are investigating after a person was shot an killed outside of the Hill Student Center at UAB on Thursday night. Friday morning, Jefferson County Deputy Chief Coroner Bill Yates identified the victim as Destiny Danielle Washington, 20, of Trussville. Washington was a 2018 graduate of Clay-Chalkville High School. She was completing classes at Lawson State through UAB’s Joint Admission Program with dreams of becoming a nurse to help others. At approximately 9:40 p.m., South Precinct officers were dispatched to Children’s Hospital at 1601 5th Avenue South on report of an adult gunshot victim who arrived by way of private vehicle. Children’s Hospital staff pronounced the victim deceased, according to Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
