To combat Chapel Hill’s unstable housing climate, the Chapel Hill planning department and Town Council are considering a LUMO amendment that would allow duplexes alongside single-family homes. Some community members have pushed back in the name of historical preservation.
The Chapel Hill Town Council discussed topics including the use of American Rescue Plan Act funds and two conditional zoning applications for developments that would offer affordable housing units at a meeting on Wednesday.
To celebrate its centennial, Sutton's offered free shirts to the first 100 customers and $1 hot dog meals throughout the day.
Sutton's sold over 900 hot dogs and served nearly 600 people on Wednesday.
“We love the community," Amy Pinney, wife of Sutton’s current owner, Don Pinney, said. "We love Chapel Hill, and we are so glad that all these people love Suttons."
During a work session on April 10, the Chapel Hill Town Council met to discuss controversial changes to housing ordinances in the Town. The proposed amendment to the Land Use Management Ordinance would promote "missing middle" housing, such as accessory apartments and duplexes.
