WHEN it comes to retail therapy, supermarket shopping is pretty much the limit in lockdown. So we’ve taken a look back at superstores over the years. Did you fill your trolley in any of these branches? In our gallery above we ve got photos of how the Morrisons store in Girlington looked back in 1962, when it opened in the former Victoria cinema building, and the old Bolton Junction Morrisons, which opened in 1964. Sir Ken’s mother, Hilda Morrison, greeted the first customers. The site closed after Five Lane Ends Morrisons developed its Enterprise 5 complex. Morrisons opened its first supermarket, ‘Victoria’, in Girlington in 1961, selling fresh meat, fruit and vegetables and other provisions, with free parking. Checkout staff are pictured in smart white uniforms, ready at the tills.
