As of the end of 2021, Estonia's population stood at more than 1.33 million, with the native population, i.e. those with at least one parent and grandparent born in the country, accounting for 72.5 percent thereof. Since the previous census, however, the share of residents of foreign origin to consider themselves ethnic Estonians has increased, according to data from the 2021 Population and Housing Census.
According to Statistics Estonia, last year, Estonian concert promoters organized 3,092 concerts, selling over 375,000 tickets through online portals. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in recent years, the number of concert promoters, concerts in Estonia dropped significantly in 2021, as did attendance levels.
According to the results of the 2021 register-based population and housing census, there are 341,995 families living in Estonia, 49 percent, of which consist of two members. There are fewer families living in Estonia now, than recorded in the previous census, however the average family size has grown. 154,625 families (or 45 percent) of families in Estonia contain children under the age of 18, and 16 percent of the population lives alone.
Many schools across Estonia are starting the new year without a speech therapist, social pedagogue or school psychologist on staff. While their numbers in schools remain on the rise, the need for their services continues to outstrip that.
According to data published by Statistics Estonia, in 2021 the average life expectancy in Estonia decreased to 77.2 years. The average male life expectancy in 2021 was 72.8 years, while for females the average was 81.4 years. The data also reveals that men can expect to live and average of 54.9 years "disability-free," with 58 years the average for women.
