Sri Lanka s first cable-stayed bridge

3 January, 2021 Highways Minister Johnston Fernando inspects construction work of Sri Lanka’s first ever high-tech cable stayed bridge last week. The six-lane bridge, built under two packages costing Rs. 31,593 million and Rs. 9,896 million, is expected to be completed in July this year. Work on the bridge was initiated in 2014 during President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s Government.

Construction work on Marine Drive extension to be expedited

Highways Minister Johnston Fernando said that construction work on the extension of Marine Drive from the Kollupitiya junction to Ranmuthu Hotel will be expedited on the instructions of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Reasons should be submitted to Land Acquisition and Restoration Committee  Highways Ministry says system followed for 18 projects By Uditha Jayasinghe  Cabinet has approved special provisions when providing compensation for land acquired for the elevated Port City and Ruwanpura Expressways, a top official said yesterday.  Cabinet Spokesman and Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told reporters during the online weekly Cabinet briefing that land owners would have the opportunity to apply for additional relief beyond what was customarily provided by the Government valuer.  These provisions will be provided under the Orders (Compensation) for Land Acquisition published by the extraordinary gazette No. 1864/54 for the lands acquired under 18 projects implemented under the Ministry of Highways.
