40 years as a cop analysis. i call it the tragedy triangle. there s a mental health issue disorder. there s firearms that he owns or has easy access to in the home or where he works or lives. and there s some sort of police interaction event. that s the triangle. and then after that, and that happened with this guy in april. and then after that, tragedy ensues. i mean, you can look at parkland, it s the same scenario. you can look at any number of them. i think the mental health professionals did an evaluation, they did incarcerate him for observation for a few days, but even that might not have stopped it. what the department has got to do better, all across the board, when you know what these people are, when a tragedy triangle shows up, then what are you doing to monitor this guy? are you knocking on his door every once in a while, are you looking at his social media. i m not saying you should be harassing him or searching him or arresting him, but are you keeping up? do you talk to
night is just unbelievable. this community is reeling. as you mentioned, one of the safest cities in america, but was not safe last night in the 11:00 hour, when that gunman walked into that bar and just started shooting indiscriminately at people. we can tell you here at this hospital, they took in 11 patients, and remarkably, we always look for the bit of good news, the silver lining in these horrible stories is that 10 of the 11 people, some of whom came in with gunshot wounds and lacerations have been released. they were able to go home to their families. the 11th, unfortunately, is the ventura county sheriff s sergeant ron helus who lost his life last night. the first officer in there. and as we understand it from the sheriff, he walked in to an ambush. we don t know if the shooter was waiting for the officers to come into the building before taking fire at them and then perhaps ending his own life there. a highway patrolman who went in with sergeant helus was able to get out of t
