Tributes paid to much-loved Westcliff taxi driver Kristian Gunn

TRIBUTES have been paid to a much-loved taxi driver who tragically lost his battle with liver cancer after his transplant was delayed due to Covid-19. Kristian Gunn, known as “Gunny”, has been described as the “ultimate prankster” and consistently put smiles on people’s faces during his 35 years with AC Radio Cabs. Even after his diagnosis in late 2019, the 60-year-old remained a fighter and survived just over two months longer than expected. Mr Gunn, from Westcliff, was given a prognosis of three weeks in February before he died at Havens Hospices on May 5. His son, Andy Gunn, said: “Dad had been ill for so long and in the end he had no quality of life, so we’re glad he’s not in pain anymore.

Queues for lifesaving jab but don t arrive too soon | Braintree and Witham Times

PEOPLE have been urged to stick to their coronavirus vaccination appointment times as queues begin to grow outside vaccine centres across south Essex. The George Hurd Centre, in Basildon, and Highlands Surgery, in Leigh, both had large numbers of people lining up outside waiting to be given their potentially lifesaving jab. Councillors in Southend and Basildon have welcomed the keen attitude of residents wanting the vaccine, but have urged people to keep within their appointment window to keep the queues down. Basildon Tory councillor David Harrison received his vaccine on December 21 and felt marshalling outside centres needs to improve. He said: “It’s important if people have got an appointment time to get vaccinated, they keep it.

Andrew Fenton becomes first person to receive Covid vaccination at Danbury Medical Centre

The first person has received the coronavirus vaccine at Danbury Medical Centre. Andrew Fenton, 84, was the first patient to receive their Covid vaccination at Danbury Medical Centre on Tuesday (December 15). The vaccine was administered by Practice Nurse Andrea Stead. The Danbury Medical Centre became on of five centres to begin offering the vaccinations in Essex earlier this week. Like hospital staff at Basildon University Hospital, who launched their campaign last week, local practice teams are working rapidly to redesign their sites and put in place safe processes to meet the challenges of offering the vaccination. The NHS will contact people in the priority groups when it is their turn to receive the vaccine and local residents are being asked not to contact their practice enquiring about vaccination.
