UP, Davao City, 3 other entities granted broadcast franchise

(Presidential Communications) + May 20, 2021 PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has signed laws granting a 25-year broadcast franchise to five entities, including the Davao City Government. Duterte on May 18 inked Republic Acts 11538, 11539, 11541, and 11542 which give Davao City Government, Instant Data Inc., Palawan Broadcasting Corp., and Highland Broadcasting Network Corp., respectively, a congressional franchise for a period of 25 years. RA 11540, also signed on May 18, renews the University of the Philippines’ 25-year franchise to operate radio and television broadcasting stations within the campus premises for educational purposes. The Davao City local government, according to RA 11538, has been granted a franchise to construct, install, operate, and maintain radio broadcasting stations in the city.

Poe cites broadcast firms role in distance learning

PASAY CITY, Mar. 13 Sen. Grace Poe called on broadcast firms seeking the renewal of their franchises to steadfastly carry out their role in enabling students across the country to benefit from distance learning. We must provide all the necessary support to our students, especially those whose only dependable access to learning is through the broadcast media at this time of pandemic, stressed Poe, chairperson of the Senate committee on public services. Ibuhos natin lahat ng ating magagawa lalo na para sa ating mga mahihirap na mag-aaral upang sila ay matuto at hindi mapag-iwanan sa gitna ng kanilang kalagayan sa hagupit ng pandemya. Sila ang ating pag-asa, Poe reiterated.
