Highbridge War Memorial Trust given boost by Brent Knoll s Sanders Garden Centre

Highbridge War Memorial Trust has been given a boost by Sanders Garden Centre in Brent Knoll this week. The charity has been donated new gardening tools worth around £100 to replace the trust’s rusting, broken tools that have been used for decades to maintain the town’s memorial gardens. Sharon Reid, volunteer secretary and trustee, and Mike McCleary, volunteer gardener and trustee, received the donation from Sanders’ Tony Gray on Thursday, as pictured here. Sharon told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’re very grateful to Sanders for kindly donating this brand new gardening equipment, replacing our very old, rusty and unusable tools. It’s greatly appreciated!”

Highbridge s annual ceremony at Frank Foley statue for World Holocaust Day halted

Highbridge’s annual ceremony at Frank Foley statue for World Holocaust Day halted The annual ceremony to commemorate World Holocaust Day at Highbridge’s Frank Foley Statue won’t take place next week due to the Coronavirus lockdown, it has been confirmed, but residents are being encouraged to hold a moment of silence at home instead. Highbridge War Memorial Trust usually holds the annual commemoration on January 27th, conducted by members of the Highbridge Clergy when wreaths are laid besides the statue. For the first time since the statue was installed, the event won’t go ahead. Derek Cooper, one of the organisers, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Sadly, with the current lockdown we can’t hold a ceremony this year but we are encouraging local people to hold their own moment of silence safely at home instead to mark the occasion.”
