福岡県警が飲酒運転で摘発した100人に対し、2006年に福岡市東区で3児が犠牲になった飲酒運転事故について聞いたところ、約9割が「知っている」と回答したことが分かった。一方で、29歳以下に限ると半数程度にとどまった。悲惨な事故を知っていながら飲酒運転する人が相次ぎ、若い世代では風化が進んでいる実態が浮き彫りになった。千葉県八街（やちまた）市で児童5人が死傷する事故が起きるなど飲酒運転は後を絶たず、過去の教訓をどう生かすのかが課題になっている。
聞き取りは、世代ごとの認識を対策に生かそうと昨年6～11月に実施。100人のうち89人が3児死亡事故を「知っている」と回答した。県警幹部は「悲惨な事故を知っていても人ごとのように考えたり、アルコール依存症を抱えていたりする背景があるのではない
