This is the storm that doesnt want to quit, pummeling the south for days, and its been setting rainfall records as it marches to the east. No letup this morning to the heavy rains, pounding winds and floods brutalizing the gulf coast, from pascagoula to pensacola, red flag warnings. The wind and rain unrelenting. The rain is punishing, but more than that its the wind. Gusts exceeding 35 miles an hour. The type of winds you would see in a tropical storm. Across the south, dramatic scenes as the storm moved through. Part of the causeway to dauphin, alabama, had to be shut down, waters streaming over the sea wall. War ii. Palaus president , tommy hemengesau, says residents are looking forward to their arrival. We are very honored and very appreciative of the now planned visit of the emperor and the empress to visit palau as we remember the 70th anniversary of the end of world war ii. Remengesau says palau and japan must console the spirits of the dead. He says the anniversary is an important occasion to mourn those who died and to pray for peace. Palau was under japanese control for about three decades until the end of the war. Remengesau says he hopes the visit will allow the people of japan to learn more about palau. Now, people in palau are getting ready to host the imperial couple. Senator mark rudimu has fond memories of meeting them more than three decades ago.
