The Contra Costa County Coroners Office has identified the 19yearold murder victim as Claire Horton of walnut creek. Seen here on her Facebook Page and the man who killed her is 21yearold scott burtex of lafayette. The two had previously been in a relationship but couldnt say how long ago only that it was not recent. And this one caught everybody off guard. Were talking about two good supportive families. All indications are good kids. Reporter shortly before 7 00 this morning a Family Member called 911 reporting shots fired. A source told me vetex walked up to the front door and rang the bell. Orton answered, then vetex shot her and then shot himself in the lawn. I was just in shock. Its very sad. Reporter police say theres no previous indication of trouble. Firefighters are battling what once was a massive fivealarm fire on the Oakland Emeryville border in the last two hours or so crews from multiple agencies have been able to get the fire a bit under control. It ignited just after 5 00 this morning at a condo building still under construction at 3800 san pablo avenue right next to 580. The massive fire at one point stopped traffic on the freeway. The construction crane melted at the top and there is concern at this 7 00 hour it could become more compromised and collapse on to nearby buildings. Fire crews are working to stop the building itself from collapsing. That what you just saw was the flames from about an hour ago. This is what it looks like now. You can see the flames not as present, more smoke going into the air. So they do have that fire a bit more under control
Teams from going in to search. But today, from the banks, a Family Member spotted an unusual parting of the water. A drone was brought in and captured images of a vehicle. Sheriffs deputies say they cant confirm it is the 18yearolds honda accord but it was found just 100 yards away from where witnesses say she crashed into the water. We believe there is a high probability that she is in the car and that shes wearing a seatbelt. The 18yearold from tracy had just graduated from high school and was attending college, hoping to become a social worker. When you walk with the Family Members, her mother, her father, and you see the determination on their faces to find their daughter. It is very moving. And that determination and that love for her is what helped find that car today. Reporter now, canyon road will be closed tomorrow morning starting at 10 00 so crews can get into the creek and try on pull that car out. We have learned the name of the 18yearold victim.
