The leading industry association indicated that the imposition of elevated import duties on cut and polished gemstones could result in decreased exports and fewer job opportunities within the jewellery sector.
Given the current annual inflation rate of about 5%, the higher cost of living and the time that has elapsed since last revision, it is expected that the basic exemption limit will be increased to Rs. 3,50,000.
