After a year of darkness and no July Fourth parades, festivities or fireworks, Rochester and many of its surrounding towns have announced plans for Independence Day 2021.
Most communities are scaling back events, in large part because the coronavirus pandemic made it difficult to plan them and book vendors. But fireworks shows are scheduled, including in the city, which also is staging a drone show.
Note that Penfield is hosting its celebration on Saturday, July 3.

5K starts at 8 a.m. July 4 at Meridian Centre Park, 2025 Meridian Center Blvd., off Winton Road. People can register for $30 at yellowjacketracing.com.
