Gwent Police post cheeky Twitter message GWENT Police is appealing for information following a serious assault in Rogerstone, Newport. Detectives are investigating an assault which took place in Thornbury Park, Ebenezer Drive on March 7 at around 8.10pm. A 27-year-old man from Newport was assaulted by two other men. He sustained serious injuries and received treatment in hospital. He has since been discharged. A 44-year-old man from Cardiff was arrested on suspicion of assault and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries. Officers are appealing for any motorist with dash-cam footage to get in touch as they may have captured footage of a dark-coloured car travelling in the area.

Road closed after void opens under A227 Ightham Road near Plaxtol

A road has been closed in both directions after a void opened underneath the carriageway.
The A227 Ightham Road near Tonbridge Road is undergoing emergency repairs from Bewley Lane to High Cross Road near Plaxtol.

Kent Police was called at 8.15am and the stretch was closed just before 10.30am. It is not yet known when it will reopen.
Drivers are being urged to find alternative routes and expect delays in the area.
South East Water is working to fix the issue which was caused by a burst water main.
