He said building a global coalition for carbon neutrality by mid-century would be the UN’s central objective, stressing that countries need credible mid-term goals and plans that are aligned with the objective. x The UN scribe, who spoke at the virtual COP26 roundtable on Clean Power Transition, said achieving zero emissions by 2050, will require an urgent transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy. He said it is both an injustice and impediment to sustainable development, a situation where about 789 million people across the developing world are without access to electricity, three-quarters of whom live in sub-Saharan Africa.
