Ohio Community College Tweaks Offerings to Match Local Job Market

The college had been founded in part to train workers for automotive and steel manufacturing jobs, and suddenly leaders had to pivot in order to stay relevant and try to keep people in jobs. They shifted their focus to entrepreneurship. .

Five community colleges show ways to connect to local jobs

In a new book, the Harvard Project on Workforce highlights five community colleges as examples of how to thrive by moving in step with their local economies, evolving to serve the quest for economic mobility in their students. The five community colleges Lorain County in Ohio, Mississippi Gulf Coast, San Jacinto in Houston, Pima of Arizona and Northern Virginia – are cited as examples to show leaders across the country who want to better serve their communities. They are also examples to show that community colleges are worthy of investment, the authors say.
