TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - A chase for three male shooting suspects left one Tupelo police officer bitten on the leg by a dog, but the suspects were later captured.
Officers in the Hibner Street area heard suspected gunshots at approximately 4:30 p.m. CT on July 13, 2021. Three male suspects fled on foot after the officers tried to make contact.
During the exchange, one officer was bitten by a dog on the leg and was forced to shoot his gun to get the dog to stop biting. The dog was not hit and released its grip after the shot was fired. It was later secured by its owner. The officer who was bitten suffered deep lacerations and is currently being treated.
