debate matt slap chairman of the american conservative union and liz chatterdon president of the chatterdon group. thank you for being here. let s start with you, liz, i was listening to the speech this former and i feel as if the former governor took to appeal to the progressive group who we would anticipate vote for elizabeth warren perhaps. do you think that s a strategy he s taking and do you think it s an effective strategy? i absolutely do believe it s the strategy he s taking. the democratic primaries are all about who is the best democrat. in this case i think martin o malley sees an opportunity to go a little bit left of hillary clinton while not quite as left as senator bernie sanders. so i do think there s a little bit of an elizabeth warren space in him. i like senator bernie sanders but he s pretty left of left. and elizabeth warren sends to be more like governor o malley very progressive but not quite as self-proclaimed socialist as bernie sanders is so
here s senator chuck schumer lording it over him. senator harry reid s office is thanking him the. thank you, senator. here s barbara boxer. ted cruz gave us an opening to do nominations. he gave us an opening and we took it. it wasn t just the democrats, the opposing team taunting ted cruz. it was also his own team. republican senator orrin hatch of utah, quote, you should have an end goal in sight if you re going to do these types of things. and i don t see an end goal other than irritating a lot of people. senator susan collins, republican of maine. i don t understand the approach he s taking. and i think it s unfortunate and counterproductive.

i want to come back to the politics of this. what is the politics, jeff, do you think that drove the president to make this what i view is a concession, what others may not view as a concession? i think it is a very political gesture. as we ve discussed, congress is not going back to this law. congress has had it with this issue. the republicans, many of them got elected on a prom toys kill it al promise to kill it altogether. that s not happening, and neither is an amendment. but i mean, i think obama s whole deportment when it comes to congress now that in this new world that we re in is to say i m open to your ideas. republican, democratic, that s what he s that s the posture he s taking, but in realistically nothing s going to change. is he dhoog with the other democratic leadership on full board or hanging them out to dry and say i m going to look like i m taking the middle ground here? what s bernie sanders say? bernie sanders said this is great because we can do
