Crews begin assembling tower crane in Harrisburg

It s time go vertical – that’s what Harrisburg University says about construction on its new 11-story Health Science Education Center in downtown Harrisburg.From Friday through Sunday, crews are assembling a giant tower crane that’s going to be doing much of the heavy lifting for the project at Third and Chestnut streets.Chestnut Street is closed between South Second and South Third streets while crews put the crane together. The street is expected to reopen at 6 a.m. Tuesday.Harrisburg University provided some facts about the crane:It will be about 255 feet high, which is as tall as the Pennsylvania State Archives Building and 5 feet taller than the Kissing Tower at Hershey Park.The radius is about 164 feet.It can lift 35,275 pounds, which is approximately 14 Honda Civics.Harrisburg University’s Health Science Education Center is expected to accommodate at least 1,000 additional students in nursing, pharmaceutical sciences and other allied health programs.
