IUPUI professor Laura Holzman gets creative to Free the Vaccine

I got the People s Vaccine, Montreal Laura Holzman has occasionally found herself at the intersection of art and medicine in her career as an academic and public scholar. In her book Contested Image, she highlighted the fight to keep the painting “The Gross Clinic” by Thomas Eakins — depicting 19th century surgeon Samuel Gross — in Philadelphia. Last year she created an exhibit, together with Meredith Brickell, that was part of Fix, Heartbreak and Hope inside our Opioid Crisis at the Indiana State Museum.  This time around Holzman, an associate professor of art history and museum studies at IUPUI, is confronting global inequities in healthcare with art.

Starry Night planned for PV Art Center Chefs and Cellars SHARE Dinner to be served with an immersion into Vincent van Gogh by Kevin Cody Bob Yassin, former Executive Director of Palos Verdes Art Center, adopts the persona of Vincent van Gogh during a virtual return to the Peninsula on Thursday, May 6, for the Art Center’s annual Chefs and Cellars celebration.  Yassin’s talk is a prelude to “Immersive van Gogh,” which is scheduled to open May 27 at an, as yet, undisclosed location in downtown Los Angeles. The half-million cubic foot exhibit is designed and conceived by Massimiliano Siccardi, with soundtrack by Luca Longobardi, who pioneered immersive digital art experiences in France.

(KOLD News 13) - As Black History Month comes to an end, an associate professor at the University of Arizona is using his art to keep the conversation going. Aaron Coleman started expressing himself first through graffiti, and then after graduating from Herron School of Art and Design at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis, he got into printmaking. Recently, he was inspired by a 1950s children’s coloring book that only depicted white children.
