Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has inaugurated a steering committee on prevention of gender-based violence in the state, Igbere TV reports.
Inaugurating the committee, Gov. Ugwuanyi, represented by his deputy, Hon. Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, stated that the body is saddled with the sacred mandate of developing and implementing programmes and policies for the prevention of gender-based violence in Enugu State, as well as “the rehabilitation of persons who still fall victim of gender-based violence despite all the preventive measures”.
It would be recalled that the wife of the Enugu State Governor, Mrs. Monica Ugochi Ugwuanyi, had recently campaigned against gender-based violence, calling for an all-inclusive and sustained crusade to stem the tide of domestic violence, sexual abuse, female genital mutilation, public harassment, among other forms of violence against women in the society.

The wife of the Enugu State Governor, Mrs. Monica Ugochi Ugwuanyi, on Wednesday, rounded off her state and zonal campaigns against gender-based violence, calling for an all-inclusive and sustained crusade to stem the tide of domestic violence, sexual abuse, female genital mutilation, public harassment, among other forms of violence against women in the society.
Mrs. Ugwuanyi who also used the events to scale up awareness on yellow fever and the importance of the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination, described gender-based violence as barbaric and a violation of human rights.

The President extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the former military administrator.
A statement signed by his Spokesman, Femi Adesina, said President Buhari avers that as a military officer, the late Colonel Usman served the nation with courage and dedication.
Buhari said that Usman’s contributions to peace and unity as well as his quest for public good continued even in retirement.
He prayed that Almighty Allah will repose the soul of the departed.
He said his thoughts are with the government and people of Kogi State, where Usman hailed from and with friends and colleagues, as they mourn this loss.
